Backup 2.5 ships today. The headline change is improved instant restore: boot a VM from a backup point in seconds, with data lazy-loaded from the backup repository as required.
Other notable changes in 2.5:
- Refreshed file-level restore browser for picking individual files or directories out of a backup point.
- OS-consistent quiescence improvements (sync issued via the in-guest agent before snapshot) for both Linux and Windows guests.
- New REST endpoints exposing the full backup catalogue for automation and reporting.
- A free tier for up to 15 VMs. Stand up Backup against your environment without a licence, then move to paid licensing if you need to scale out or want support.
Backup 2.5 is a drop-in upgrade for 2.x deployments. Customers with active support can download the upgrade from the download portal today.
